What is PAIMI?
The PAIMI program was established by Congress in
1986. Each state has a PAIMI program which receives funding from
the National Center for Mental Health Services. The
purpose of PAIMI is:
to protect and advocate for the rights of people
with mental illness, and to investigate
allegations of abuse and neglect of persons living in residential
facilities or facilities that provide care and treatment.
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration,
Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) administers the PAIMI Program.
PAIMI Services
The PAIMI program offers the following services:

information and referral regarding available programs
and services;

individual and systemic advocacy;

legal representation;
-
outreach, education, training and technical assistance
on disability rights, laws and services.
PAIMI provides assistance in the following areas:
Who
is Eligible for PAIMI Services?
Those eligible for PAIMI services include individuals
with mental illness or emotional impairments residing in the community
or in facilities such as state and county psychiatric facilities, nursing
homes, jails and prisons, and private treatment facilities.
